Electives are open to anyone interested in the topic, regardless of whether he or she is pursuing a teacher training certificate!

Chakra Vinyasa

August 4 - 10 @ Soulshine, Bali The objective of this course is to explore how the dynamic movement of Vinyasa flow can restore the vibration and health of the Chakras. Gain an in-depth understanding of each Chakra. Learn the principals of teaching Vinyasa to enhance the awakening of each Chakra. Learn to sequence a class based on a specific Chakra or part of the body. Full registration details here.

Tantric/Kriya

August 10-17, Retreat to Bali The objective of this course is to become totally immersed in the power of the ancient Kriyas. Travel to the sacred space of Soulshine, Bali, organized with ease through The Travel Yogi. During this retreat, you will begin to incorporate daily meditation, pranayama and inner silence. Students will learn how to teach zen, inner silence, yoga nidra and japa japa meditations. You will have the option of remaining in silence for 3 days of this retreat. This unique experience is suitable for all students looking to explore a yoga practice more deeply.

3-Part Teaching Intensive **New in 2013!**

The 3 Key Parts of Teaching: Physical, Mental and Spiritual, starting September 2013
Part 1: Anatomy, Alignment & Adjustments ~ September 13-15
Gain an in-depth understanding of the key anatomical considerations in teaching yoga and adjusting asanas. Learn to observe body types in order to give safe, effective alignment instructions and prevent injuries in your classes. This portion is 13.5 Continuing Education hours for teachers OR 13.5 hours toward the complete 50-hour elective.

Part 2: Restorative Yoga & Meditation ~ November 22-24
In this part of the 3-part teacher series, you will explore yin and restorative poses, making use of props and deep adjustments. You will learn how to guide your students into a space of safety and bliss in either a yin class or simply in savasana. This portion is 13.5 Continuing Education hours for teachers OR 13.5 hours toward the complete 50-hour elective.

Part 3: Chakra Clearing & Awakening ~ January 17-19 2014
In this series, you will explore the body's energy centers (chakras) through your own practice. Julie guides you through one chakra each week with breath work, asanas, meditation and exploration. The weekend is followed by a 7-week online series. Each week, you will explore and balance one chakra in depth with classes, meditation, online discussion and journaling. This portion is 25 Continuing Education hours for teachers OR 25 hours toward the complete 50-hour elective.

Advanced Asana

September 22 - November 17 at The Green Yogi The objective of this course is to learn how to develop a deep, functional understanding of a variety of advanced asanas. Learn how to safely and effectively modify and adjust. Learn effective sequencing for designing a practice around a 'peak' pose. Learn to incorporate themes into your teaching.

Living Yoga

November 7-11, 2013 in Santa Ynez, CA Living Yoga can be taken as an elective or as a retreat. The objective of this course is to experience ashram-style living. Students will partake in the Shanprakshalana, intestinal cleanse, and be given tools for living a pure yogic lifestyle. This incredible experience introduces students to meditation, breathwork, chanting and the deepest roots of the Yoga system.

Vinyasa Yoga

Coming again in 2014 The objective of this course is to learn the skills necessary to teach vinyasa yoga to all levels. Learn to teach alignment without disturbing the flow of the class. Learn how teach beginner modifications for advanced sequences. Learn creative and intelligent sequencing. Learn how teaching vinyasa can connect your students to the pranic energy within.

Therapeutics

Coming again in Fall/Winter 2014
*Students may participate in the entire training or individual weekend trainings only*
The objective of this course is to learn how to teach therapeutically. Learn how to teach to students with COPD, heart conditions, cancer, orthopedic injuries, and auto immune disorders. Learn about the pregnancy process and how to work with prenatal and post natal women. Learn restorative poses and yoga nidra meditation. The first weekend focuses on Orthopedic injuries (foot, knee, hip, back, neck, shoulder & wrist). The second weekend is dedicated to Prenatal & Postnatal teaching. The third weekend teaches about auto immune disorders, cancer, yin & restorative postures. The final weekend is discussion, practicum, and graduation (for those participating in the Teacher Training).

Yoga for Athletes

Coming Again in 2015 Learn to teach yoga and visualization to athletes, both individually or in a team setting. This course has a specific focus on preventing and rehabilitating injuries. The training will cover yoga and visualization techniques for soccer, basketball, baseball, football, volleyball (beach and indoor), surfing, skiing, snowboarding, gymnastics, diving, and swimming.
